Peace of Mind

Padre didn’t usually pay much attention to current events, but he couldn’t help notice that the media had a pattern of reporting the same stories all day — everyday. That began to irritate the old priest!

And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace. (Jas 3:18; NRSV)

Of course, most faithful believers want justice for everyone. They want it not only for the rich and powerful, but also the weakest and most vulnerable in society. But that seems to be a bit of a problem right now in the world — maybe it’s always been a problem.

The Bible tells us that if we want to see justice, we must make peace. It informs us that those who make peace actually sow the seeds of justice by their peaceful acts.

Herman noticed a change in Padre’s disposition. It happened after the wise, little mouse shared a practical tip with the old priest.

It wasn’t easy at first. But when Padre realized that he was getting addicted to the 24-hour news cycle of accusations and verbal assaults, he found himself avoiding mainstream news and social media debates. And somehow, after just a few days, he realized that the world would not fall apart if he didn’t turn on his TV.

The old priest discovered something else too. He was actually feeling a lot better about the people around him, even if they had a different political perspective than his. And he had more time for prayer and reflection too.

It wasn’t long before the old priest was at peace. He decided he’d never underestimate the wisdom of a little, orange mouse again.

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. God has a plan and purpose for your life (Jer 29:11). Trust Him!

In Christ.
