For most of us, life is a set of routines that gets broken periodically by happenstance and circumstance. Monday begins the work week … Wednesday marks “hump day” … and by the time Friday rolls around, it’s “TGIF!” But that’s not how God intended things to be.
THE WORD …
Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
(Mt 24:42, NRSVCE)
THE QUESTION …
“Keep awake!” Does that mean, “Don’t go to sleep.” Or does it mean something else, like, “Remain alert.” Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security; the latter is probably true.
Faithful believers must be alert at all times for opportunities to help build the Kingdom of God where they serve others.
THE PRAYER …
Today we pray for people around us who have strayed from their faith and from the Church.
We ask God, through our prayers and in union with the intercessory prayers of all the saints in heaven (Rev 8:3-4), to send forth His Holy Spirit to kindle a new fire in the souls of those who enter our workplace or into whose workplace we might enter. Dear Father, give them a new love for your Son Jesus Christ and His Church (Ps 104:30).
We also ask God to use each of us however He sees fit and to prepare us for whatever tasks He might have in store for us as we enter our workplace each day or the workplace of another person.
We pray these things in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ, the Master, the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Jn 14:6).
