The Balancing Act

Balance can be a real challenge in life! But it doesn’t have to be.

There is a Career Development concept known as “work-life balance.” It’s good to know that career advisers think of such things. But it’s also important, however, to consider what we call those things.

Identity matters!

The idea of balance between work and family is important for finding satisfaction and fulfillment in life. When you read the literature, it is clear that many of those doing research actually do understand what the intended outcome(s) should be. But does that really make it “all good”?

The balancing act necessary to find satisfaction, happiness, and fulfillment is not really about work and life at all. The real problem is the gap between the flesh (the physical world) and the spirit (our spiritual lives).

The balance we seek is impacted by both what we can see and touch and what we cannot see or touch. In so many ways, it is the latter that actually drives our feelings of satisfaction and fulfillment. The spiritual side of life cannot be ignored.

Balance is necessary in life. Finding this balance does not have to be a compromise between who you are and what you do. In fact, it might actually be more about who Jesus is and who you are in Him (Mt 16:13-16). This critical identity is what delivers real meaning and fulfillment in the midst of your “daily grind.”

“In life, you either do what you are, or you risk becoming what you’re doing.”
